The Culture Collection of Yeasts
The Culture Collection of Yeasts (CCY) is a part of the Institute of Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences. About 3300 strains, among them yeasts of medical and industrial importance (brewing and wine yeasts) and isolates from various natural sources (water, soil, and plant material) are maintained there.
The CCY is a member of the European Culture Collections’ Organization (ECCO) and the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC), and has the status of an International Depository Authority for the purpose of patent procedure.
The CCY offers the isolation, identification, deposit, and supply of yeast strains to various institutions.
Its research projects have focused on the diversity of yeasts associated with different natural sources, their properties, and the response of yeast cells to some stress conditions.
